Camp Manual

The population of our community is around 1000 people and the main industries are farming, tourism, building and artisans. This is a rural setting, which means there will be a tremendous amount of deer grazing roadside, on the soccer field and on our property. On the island there is a general store, which provides the basics, such as milk, coffee, eggs, newspapers and light snacks. The general store also serves as the liquor outlet, cafe and post office- one stop shopping island style. The community hall is several hundred meters from the general store, the soccer field is located behind the community hall. The community hall hosts all kinds of plays and performances for the community through the year.

The ferry to Denman Island leaves from Buckley Bay and takes approximately 10 minutes to arrive on Denman Island.  All residential camp participants are required to find their own way to the Buckley Bay Ferry Terminal. We will meet at 3:30 pm (on the Sunday for which the camp starts) in front of the Seafood Shop which is located directly below the Buckley Bay Petro-Canada Gas Station. In the event that you are flying in to attend the camp, the nearest airport is the Comox Valley International Airport. With this in mind, we are more than willing to make arrangements to meet you at the airport and transfer back to Denman Island (these arrangements must be made and confirmed prior to the start of camp). If you are travelling from Vancouver, there is an opportunity for you to walk-on the ferry in Horseshoe Bay (West Vancouver) and walk-off in Departure Bay (Nanaimo).  At this point, there is a service provided by Island Link which can bring you to the Petro Canada gas station above the Buckley Bay Ferry Terminal (these arrangements must be made in advance). The pick-up time at the end of the week will be Friday at 2:50 pm. We will take the 2:40 pm sailing off Denman Island for Buckley Bay. Please keep in mind that during the summer the ferry will often run  “off-schedule” which means we may be slightly delayed.

Miscellaneous

-    a variety of tasks may be applied during the week to keep things moving

The camp participants will be required to maintain a healthy and desirable living space.  Which means that they will be responsible for ensuring the accommodations are kept clean and fresh on a daily basis.  All training gear can be stored outside of the sleeping area, as well there will be several clotheslines set-up around the property to dry training gear and gloves.
